2007 SPONSOR PROFILE
Anthony L. Clayton,
Escondido, California
Anthony enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1990. He met his wife Callie in basic training, and the two soon started a family. During his career in the Navy, Anthony was stationed all over the world — and Callie stayed in California to raise their daughter and twin boys. In 2003, Anthony retired as a Petty Officer Second Class. As a civilian, Anthony entered the engineering field, and realized that a college degree could help further his new career. He and Callie attended Palomar Community College together, and both graduated with associate’s degrees in 2006. They had to make a tough decision — only one could afford to pursue another degree. Anthony enrolled at University of Phoenix, and earned his bachelor’s degree in business management. Now, he is working toward his MBA. Anthony is pleased to present the Paying it ForwardSM Scholarship to his wife, who postponed her education so he could attend University of Phoenix.
2007 RECIPIENT PROFILE
Callie A. Clayton
Escondido, California
Callie also had a successful career in the military. She balanced a young family with her job as an electronic aviation technician for the U.S. Navy. While working full-time, Callie went on to earn an associate’s degree alongside her husband in 2006. Now, Callie is working as a staffing manager for a recruitment firm. Working in the human resources field motivated Callie to pursue her bachelor’s degree. She put her education on hold when Anthony enrolled at University of Phoenix. Through the Paying it ForwardSM Scholarship Program, Callie will join her husband at University of Phoenix and work toward a bachelor’s degree in business management. Callie is thrilled to have the opportunity to earn a degree.
